Kooima Expansion Energizes Rock Valley

Rock Valley in Sioux County recently received some welcome news with Kooima Company announcing a major expansion of their manufacturing operation.

The Kooima project launches three important initiatives for the region.   First, work is underway at Kooima Company for a 93,000 sq.ft. expansion that will increase the companies laser robotic manufacturing capabilities as well as improve warehousing and distribution functions.   Second, the timely expansion is positive news for the community as a $530,000 RISE grant (Iowa DOT road improvement funding) was approved that will assist local development efforts in opening up Rock Valley’s fourth industrial park.  The new Rock Ridge Business Park will be a 200 acre site that will improve access to U.S. Hwy. 18 and offer opportunities for commercial and industrial expansion projects well into the future.  Finally, Kooima Company plans to purchase 10 acres in the new park from the local development group to start a new division that will refurbish harvesting equipment.   The 22,500 sq.ft. facility will begin construction later this year.  Currently Kooima Company employs 80 people.   With the expansion and new division the company will add 18 new employees.

Jim Vander Velde, Development Director for the City of Rock Valley said, “We are excited in Rock Valley!  Our companies continue to do well here, and the Kooima projects and our industrial park expansion are all very important efforts for the future of our community and region.”  Vander Velde also pointed out that Rock Valley has 18 metal manufacturers.  On a per capita basis these manufacturers purchase and bring in more raw steel for metal fabrication than any community of its size in the nation.

Kooima Company and the new industrial park are provided power by North West REC.
