Madison County Hospital Expansion Underway in Winterset Farmers Electric Cooperative and USDA Rural Development are assisting with a renovation project at Madison County Memorial Hospital and to expand the Health Trust Physicians Clinic. The $360,000 grant to Farmers Electric will become a zero interest loan for the hospital project which will add more than 3,300 square-feet to the existing clinic.
"We are extremely pleased to be assisting Madison County Memorial Hospital in their efforts to provide top quality medical care in rural Iowa," said Bill Menner USDA State Director. Madison County Memorial Hospital has provided quality care to residents in and around Madison County since 1949. The renovation and expansion of the Health Trust Physicians Clinic is part of a more than $13 million project the hospital is currently undergoing to improve facilities and services.
Chris Nolte, Director of Public Relations & Development for the hospital said, “The partnership with the Winterset community, USDA, Farmers Electric Cooperative and local leaders has been tremendous. A project like this is challenging on its own, but with committed partnerships the improvements to the hospital and clinic will have an enduring and positive impact on the Winterset community and region for many years to come.”
There are multiple phases to the hospital and clinic projects, said Nolte. “We are currently ahead of schedule and under budget without raising taxes for the facility. Much of the funding financed by services generated revenue. There will be more space for critical care and renovations are anticipated to take place in the older part of the hospital as well, with the project scheduled for completion before the fall of 2012.”
Winterset Municipal Utilities provides power to the hospital and clinic projects.
